Rules

We may refrain from offering our services to you if you have one or more infractions of these rules. Please help us keep our community enjoyable for everyone.

These rules suggest what not to do. Punishments may be modified by staff members if the situation requires it. We also retain the authority to change these rules at any time with notice to keep up with rule lawyering or new inappropriate behaviour.

If you notice a player breaking these rules, you should Contact an Operator.

Max of four players roaming, raiding, or defending together.

  • You may have unlimited players in situations where everyone doesn't intend on doing PvP or PvE.
  • Donating supplies without participating or being an observer (drone, watching from afar) doesn't count towards this limit.
  • Allies are permitted.

Possible Consequences:

Keep chat and other forms of communication clean.

  • Keep racism and homophobia to an absolute minimum.

  • Slight toxicity and trash talk are allowed, as long as it doesn't spiral into hate speech.

  • Do not spam chat.

  • NSFW behavior and content are not allowed in public channels.

  • Sharing external content (links) is not permitted unless part of the topic of conversation.

  • Advertising is not allowed (unless related to a service in-game, like a shop)

  • Remain civil; do not threaten players (outside of Rust context) or dox anyone.

  • These rules will not be automatically enforced in private text channels (such as PMs, Team Chat, etc), unless we receive a report or complaint from someone.

    • This does not apply to Local chat, or any voice communications within Protobit such as VOIP.

Do not use prohibited client modifications.

  • Using cheats, hacks, or similar forms of modifications is prohibited. (This includes attaching a debugger or attempting to reverse engineer Rust on our server)
  • Exploits (also known as bug abusing) are not allowed. Please Contact an Operator if you discover an issue caused by one of our modifications.
  • Forms of automated player actions, such as macros, auto-clickers, and modifications that perform actions on your behalf, are not permitted.
    • Depending on the situation, auto-clickers or macros may be permitted. Contact an Operator if you have inquiries about your situation.

Do not intentionally overload, disrupt, or abuse bugs in our services.

Do not abuse game mechanics

  • Tool Cupboards that are only meant to grief other players may not have offline protection.
  • You may not use offline protection to protect yourself while you're online in any way.
  • You must authorize yourself and count toward offline protection in any bases you intend to play in.
  • Bypassing AFK checks in any way is prohibited.

You are required to be 13 years or older.

  • You are required to be at least 13 years of age to use our services or connect to Protobit.
    • Do not joke about being underage. Punishments will be issued if we are alerted to someone possibly being underage.
  • You may get your player data wiped and account permanently suspended until you can prove that you are of legal age.

Possible Consequences:

  • Temporary Suspension (until you're of age)
  • Permanent Suspension (if unwilling to prove your age)

Do not act like a staff member.

  • You may guide players or remind them of server rules, but leave it to an Operator if they're present.

Possible Consequences:

  • Permanent Suspension

Punishment evading is not allowed.

  • Do not attempt to circumvent or bypass a punishment inflicted by an Operator.
  • Any additional accounts that are used to evade punishments will be permanently suspended from all Protobit services.

Do not perform actions against the law.

  • You must follow German law when performing any action on our services.

Additional Punishments

These are punishments handed out by our automated systems or may be inflicted by an Operator for issues that you're responsible for, but haven't directly caused.

Bad standing.

User is considered to have bad standing (e.g., recent game/VAC bans).

You must Contact an Operator to be whitelisted to use our services.

Possible Consequences:

  • Temporary Suspension

Moderated Username.

User has a username that is not allowed on Protobit (ex. name cannot be shown by the Rust Client, or inappropriate language).

This infraction can be automatically removed if it was inflicted due to system username policies by changing your username to characters that the Rust Client can show.

If this infraction was inflicted by an Operator, you may appeal by Contacting an Operator.

Possible Consequences:

  • Username forcefully changed to Steam ID

Association with a known cheater.

User is a known associate of a cheater.

This cannot be appealed directly by affected players, but may be lifted if the associated player successfully appeals.

Possible Consequences:

  • Temporary Suspension
  • Permanent Suspension

Suspicious activity.

User is performing suspicious actions on Protobit services (such as spamming HTTP requests, port scanning, or attempting to brute-force authentication). This punishment is typically issued by automated systems, but may be manually inflicted by an Operator if excessive.

Possible Consequences:

  • Inability to reach Protobit services for up to 48h
  • Blacklist

Inappropriate Conduct.

User has extreme violations of rules regarding behavioural conduct.

This cannot be appealed; any attempts to do so will be immediately rejected.

  • Permanent Suspension
  • Blacklist

Compromised Account.

User is suspected of having their account compromised by a third-party entity.

You can Contact an Operator once you've regained complete control of all accounts affected to lift this punishment.

Possible Consequences:

  • Temporary Suspension

Pending Account Review.

This is a temporary punishment that is issued when a user needs to be removed from a situation. The user will receive a different punishment once the Protobit staff team assesses the situation and comes up with a proper conclusion.

This cannot be appealed; any attempts to do so will be immediately rejected until you receive a proper punishment.

Game Punishments

These are handed out by non-Protobit automated systems or by Facepunch representatives. We're not associated with or responsible for the enforcement of these punishments.

Steam Auth: banned

These are handed out by either EAC or a Facepunch representative and not by Protobit Staff. Protobit inherits decisions made by Facepunch and will disallow players that are publisher banned from connecting.

We cannot modify or remove your publisher ban.

Steam Auth: gamebanned

You have an active Rust game ban issued by EAC or a Facepunch representative.

EAC: *** (catch-all)

This section is a catch-all for any disconnection messages that start with EAC: (e.g., EAC: NullClient, EAC: ClientViolation, etc.).

Ensure that you have no unauthorized applications running. Try restarting your computer, and verifying your game files on Steam.

If you continue to be disconnected with the same reason, contact an Operator, or attempt to Launch Rust without EAC

Possible Consequences:

  • Unable to connect until issue resolved

Kicked: InsideTerrain Violation Level ***

The server detected your character being inside terrain for too long, and your character was killed. You may need an Operator's assistance to recover your loot. You may reconnect immediately with no consequences.

You will be permanently suspended if you were found to be using prohibited client modifications or abusing bugs to be inside the terrain.

Possible Consequences:

  • Kick

Kicked: FlyHack Violation Level ***

The server detected your character floating for too long. This is sometimes caused by high latency or desynchronised entities that don't have collision or do not exist on the server. You may reconnect immediately with no consequences.

You will be permanently suspended if you were found to be using prohibited client modifications or abusing bugs to fly.
